Florissant, MO – West Community Credit Union was delighted to collaborate with art teachers from three Hazelwood School District elementary schools; Garrett Elementary, Lawson Elementary and McCurdy Elementary, by inviting 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to submit artwork for this year’s “Anything is Possible” Art Contest. Students were encouraged to depict what “Anything is Possible” meant to them.
On Friday, February 10, over 50 submissions of artwork were put on display in West Community’s Florissant branch located at 18 Mullanphy Gardens Shopping Center. Credit union members, family and friends were invited to visit the branch and vote for their favorite piece. More than 230 votes were received, and a prize was awarded to the winner from each school.
The winners were announced at a reception hosted at the credit union on Saturday, February 25. More than 100 family members, schoolteachers, principals, board members and community leaders attended. The three winners were awarded $50 to open a Kids Account at the credit union and a special certificate. All artists received $10 and a participant certificate.
“I am so proud of the students who participated in this year’s art contest”, said Stephanie Tyler, West Community’s Community and Business Development Representative. “Their themes were powerful, future-thinking, and altruistic. I was inspired by how the kids used their artwork as a lens for representing what they believe is possible.”
“As a community-based credit union, we commit to supporting our local school districts and students in a consistent manner”, said Lori Hudson, West Community Credit Union’s Community Engagement Manager. “The relationships between educators, parents and community members is what keeps our community strong and a wonderful place to live, play and work.”
